Creating a Raised Bed

It is often a very frustrating time in store for any gardener who plans include plants that need good drainage, but whose garden is constantly water logged. Although there are many plants that do just fine, even in conditions with an excess of water, the reverse is also true. The same water that causes some varieties of flowers to bloom pretty quickly kill other flower varieties. It is therefore important that every gardener of the water requirements of plants to explore, and match them with the garden, before buying and planting, to a less stressful experience gardening guarantee.

There is a simple way to test how well the drainage in your garden. Dig a small hole, about 30 cm deep in the garden. Fill with water and leave it for one day or so. When all the water away from the hole, refill it with water. If this second filling of the water is not resolved within 12 hours or so, then the garden has a high water retention, or relatively poor drainage. If you are unfortunate enough to have such a garden, you need a little more effort for good plant survival and growth for most plants.

One of the most popular ways of dealing with poor drainage in the garden is concerned by using raised beds. The basic recipe includes the creation of a border for a bed, and then adding compost and soil in sufficient quantities to make it two inches above the rest of the garden. Even a small change that will significantly add to the drain for that particular patch. ;
